you are thinking about buying or selling lake property, talk to
Teresa. You can see more info at: www.vilarot.hpw.com

deal. Move to Hyco Lake and come home to vacation everyday!
Each newsletter, we highlight a paid advertiser
on the www.hycolake.com
website. If it were not for these paid advertisements,
the site would not be dynamic as it is and provide local information
for Hyco Lake and Person County. Please support the advertisers!
PERSONAL FAVORITE – From time-to-time, I
relate some of my personal favorites from the local area. This
week I would like to tell you about Jim’s Sauces. Made
right here in Durham, NC Jim’s Sauces are great for basting or just
dipping. I grill a polish sausage or kielbasa on the grill,
slice it up and dip it in Jim’s mild BBQ sauce. It has a
little heat and if you like it hot, try his hot sauce. I find
the sauces at Dales Country Store which is in Ceffo near the
fire department in the intersection. They are located on the
wall on the right side of the store. You can grille a pork shoulder or
Boston butt and then mix in Jim’s for feeding a large crowd also.
Try Jim’s Sauces and you’ll be hooked like we are.
LAKE LEVEL –You can always get real-time

Duke Energy Ash Pond - You
may have read or heard discussion about the ash pond dam that broke in
Tennessee recently that flooded an area with coal ash. The
governor of N.C. has recently taken action to step up inspections of
these ash pond dams. You can see the article at this link: http://www.southernstudies.org/2009/07/power-politics-pressure-builds-for-better-regulation-of-coal-ash-dumps.html
Having worked at the local power plant, I can tell you that the ash
ponds on Hyco are nothing like what are at TVA. Our dams are low
head meaning they are not very high in height. And, most of the
ash is now reclaimed and sold to make cinder blocks and other
construction items. There is actually very little slurry or
combined ash and water left in the ash ponds to precipitate an event
such as at TVA. In the event the dam did burst, there is not
sufficient head to cause a massive flooding downstream which is this
case would be Hyco Lake. So if you were concerned about the ash
ponds at Hyco, you can take that worry off your list! The flyash
is also either sold or landfilled dry on site. The new gypsum
plant will further decrease landfilling of coal ash. We should
be proud of the environmental measures Duke Energy takes to
provide massive amounts of energy while minimizing effect on the
environment.
