Newsletter - 2/29/08
If you
are like me, you are getting spring fever! The days have been
getting longer ever since December 22 so the water starts increasing
temperature, the days are longer and soon we will be cranking up
those boats after a short winter break! Don't forget to put those
drain plugs back in or reconnect your hoses before cranking. Also
remember that Daylight savings time starts early on March 9 so
that's next Saturday night! Then the days will get longer or so it
seems with the sun setting a hour later - of course it will be
darker in the morning!
LAKE LEVEL - The lake level is still inching up and we are
currently about 11" below normal. There is new and improved
information on the USGS Water Data web site so check that out
at:
http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nc/nwis/uv/?site_no=02077280&agency_cd=USGS
As I reported last newsletter, there is a statewide burning ban
so no outside burning until further notice.
NC
BOATING LIFESTYLE MAGAZINE - Most around the lake are aware of
the NC Boating Lifestyle magazine as it has featured local lake
homes and other features in the state of N.C. involving our
waterways. It is one of the finest magazines I have ever seen
and read. I read it cover-to-cover every month. The best part
is that it is free to anyone who has a boat registered in N.C.!
You can sign up on their web site at:
http://www.ncboatinglifestyle.com/ It features great
hide-a-ways in restaurants and places to visit.
SHAG and LINE DANCE LESSONS at THE FLAMING STAR - The Flaming
Star is hosting Shag and Line dance lessons in conjunction with
PCC here in Roxboro. For $35 you can join friends and learn
together for the next 6 weeks every Thursday night at The
Flaming Star. See more info at their new web site:
http://www.theflamingstar.com/ A schedule of entertainment
is listed on their calendar and also a member application if you
desire to join and save some money. Upcoming events will be
highlighted and a opt-in email list is available so that you may
sign up and receive information from The Flaming Star via
email. This Saturday enjoy the Cowboy Outlaws from
Danville. The Embers from Raleigh return March 22 and Pizazz
returns March 29. Last Saturday night Pizazz played to just
about a packed house and a full house is 650 people!
BENEFIT for DAVE HODGE - Many of us remember Dave Hodge who
taught school at Helena and Person High. Dave is a fine fellow
and has recently suffered medical bills and failing health.
Many of his former students and friends are now giving back to
Dave by having a fund raiser tomorrow, Saturday March 1. Please
make an effort to support Dave. Here are some of the activities
you can surely join in on.

PERSON COUNTY GOVERNMENT - If you haven't visited the Person
County web site lately, then you are in for a treat. After many
months of discussing the needs of the site, a redo has resulted
in at least a more friendly site and hopefully more
information. You can visit the new site at:
http://www.personcounty.net/
TOURISM and ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT - I'm sure you have made the
connection between tourism and economic development for our
area. Attractions such as Mayo/Hyco Lakes, our County Museum,
the Kirby Art Gallery, the Kirby Civic Auditorium, Roxboro Drag
Way and even Orange County Speedway and VIR Raceway in Milton
bring in over 200,000 visitors to our area annually. These
people stay here, visit, eat out and shop here bringing in more
business and jobs. As part of the visiting crowd, most any
weekend during the spring, summer and fall, there are hundreds
of motorcycle enthusiast who visit our area mainly around our
lakes. These riders are different from the "guns and roses"
crowd of yesteryear as they typically now are professional
people, trade people and yes Internet service owners like
myself! To help encourage and assist motorcycle riders so that
more may find us and visit with us, we have developed a web
site. This site has tour routes from anywhere within about 100
miles, a event calendar, motorcycle information and other
pertinent info. You can view the site at this link:
http://www.personharley.com/index.htm
Pass this newsletter along to your friends and neighbors and if
they desire to get on our mailing list, fill out the form at
this link:

to our opt-in list and put JOIN in the subject and it will add
you automagically:
